Putting Maui’s spin on the classics of relaxation
When you hear the term “après-ski,” you’re stepping into a world of post-adventure relaxation: cozy drinks, good food, laughter and stories after a long day on the slopes. The French phrase literally means “after skiing.” At its heart, it’s about unwinding and celebrating what you’ve just done.
Here at Café Mambo in Pāʻia, Maui, we asked ourselves: what if we flipped that concept for after the surf? What if there was a ritual not just for the ski crowd, but for salt-water sessions, beach breaks, and sunset cruisers? And that’s how Après Surf Hours were born.
Why Après Surf?
Maui has its own rhythm — the waves roll, the sun dips, the tide pulls back, and there’s that perfect window between lunch and dinner where the day slows, but the appetite stays. We wanted to capture that calm, golden-hour feeling and give it a name.
“Après Surf” means after the surf, a nod to the beach lifestyle, the easy pace, the refuel moment where you shift from salt to seat, from board to burger. It’s our version of the alpine lodge, but under palm trees and warm breezes.
The Menu That Reflects It
With the ritual set, we built the menu to match the moment. From 2:30 pm-4:30 pm every day, our special lineup becomes your destination:
Après Surf Burger — $12
Smash-style 4oz beef patty, cheddar, caramelized onion, arugula, and garlic-chive mayo on a brioche bun. Simple, bold flavor that hits post-surf hunger.
Après Surf Combo — $14
Burger + perfectly golden fries. Because the tide’s low but your energy’s still high.
Après Surf Trio — $18
Burger + fries + draft beer. The full celebration of the surf session.
